All About Calcium

Calcium plays an essential role in the growth of strong bones, gums and teeth.  Calcium  is also  important for  the communication of nerves, the contraction of our muscles, blood clotting and a regular heart rhythm.

The RDA of calcium is 800mg  and the SONA is 700mg.

A lack of calcium can lead to numbness in the fingers, convulsions, irregular heartbeat, osteoporosis or osteopenia and easy fractures.

Good food sources of calcium are tough to dark green leafy vegetables, sardines and salmon-tinned with the bones, almonds,Semi skimmed or skimmed milk, mozzarella cheese, goats cheese, low fat plain yogurt, cabbage, broccoli, beetroot, collard greens, fennel, kale and pak choi.
