All About Folic Acid

Folic acid also known as folate is important for cellular division, development of the nervous system during pregnancy, depression, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis.

A lack of folic acid during pregnancy leads to spina bifida which is incredibly easy to avoid and your GP will probably recommend that you take a supplement whilst pregnant. A lack of folic acid can lead to anaemia resulting in fatigue and shortness of breath.

Good food sources of folic acid are; Cooked spinach, broccoli, kidney beans, asparagus, cabbage, lettuce, beetroot, avocadoes, bananas, eggs, soy beans, brewer’s yeast, wheat germ and peanuts.
