All About Magnesium

Magnesium works alongside calcium to help regulate your muscles and heart contraction.  It is also needed to produce energy in the body, keep our bones and teeth strong and help with nerve transmission.  It keeps our digestive system healthy by keeping food moving along the intestines.  It also plays a role in keeping our blood flowing smoothly, by looking after our blood vessels.

The RDA of magnesium is 420mg and the SONA is 350mg.

Symptoms associated with a lack of magnesium our brittle nails, hyperactivity in children, PMS, high blood pressure, sensitivity to light and noise, stress and anxiety.

Good food sources of magnesium are; Pumpkin, sesame and sunflower seeds, Swiss chard, spinach, whole grain cereals such as porridge, oat bran, wheat bran, millet, quinoa, brown rice, soya beans, black eye beans, almonds, Brazils, walnuts, peanuts, halibut, tuna, Pollock, figs, okra, artichokes and lentils
