Vitamin A.

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin and in its animal form is called retinol and its vegetable form  is called beta-carotene. It is important to regulating the immune system and helps protect the body against bacteria and viruses. Vitamin A is necessary for growth and development, reproduction and eye health. It is an antioxidant.

Do not exceed 5000 iu of Vitamin A in pregnancy

The RDA of vitamin A is 800 micrograms, the SONA of Vitamin A is  3750 mcg.

A deficiency of vitamin a is associated poor vision or night blindness and  dry eyes along with skin problems.

Good dietary sources of

Vitamin A / Retinol : liver, cod liver oil, eggs, cheddar cheese, butter, whole milk, low fat plain yogurt and oily fish

Vitamin A / Beta-carotene: carrots, melons, mangoes, spinach, sweet potato, apricots, kale, peppers, broccoli, peaches, tomatoes, asparagus and papaya.
